One of the biggest complaints that many Mac users have with Leopard’s handy Spaces feature is the fact that you cannot set different background images for each Space. While there are many utilities and apps available that will allow you to do this, such as Hyperspaces and SpaceSuit, today I wanted to share a completely free and lightweight background process that will get the job done.
SpaceStation is a background process that will automatically update your Desktop image when switching your spaces. You can download the 29k .zip from here. After unzipping the archive, simply double click the SpaceStation Installer.app and click Install. The background process will be stored at /Library/Application Support/SpaceStation and the launch agent .plist at ~/Library/LaunchAgents.In order to set your preferences and select which images you want for each space, you will have to open the preferences files named com.beardedllama.SpaceStation.plist, which is located in ~/Library/Preferences.
