Toshiba CELL ZX900 TV review

When the Toshiba-backed HD-DVD lost out to Blu-ray in the hi-def format war, Tosh turned its attentions to upscaling video from standard definition to high definition. The upscaling TVs, laptops and DVD players that followed weren’t an unqualified success but it  hasn’t deterred them from pushing the envelope with the latest upscaling opportunity – turning 2D into 3D.

The Toshiba CELL TV, which will come in 55 and 65-inch models, was unveiled at CES 2010 to much fanfare at an extremely 3D TV-heavy show, promising to help fill the huge content gap as the next-gen tech looks set to enter homes for the first time in 2010.

Samsung 3D LED TV video review

 ————————————————————————————-

As well as broadcasting 3D content in its native form, the CELL TV claims to turn everything to 3D, even real time 2D content, like live sport, thanks to the Trivector tech built into the set. With the lack of 3D viewing likely to be available for the foreseeable future, this is a potential game-changing proposition.

Much of this power is due to the CELL TVs 8 core processors, which promises143-times more oomph than your average plasma or LCD. As well as upscaling, the TV has a built-in Blu-ray player and, as you’ll see from our video report, a fantastic gesture control interface to bring Wii-like action to your television set.

It’s also got a massive 1TB hard-drive for storing all those high definition movies, as well as 802.11 Wi-Fi and a LED-backlit screen that promises to be twice as bright as other models on the market.

This do-all TV was a massive hit at CES, so check out our video report to your right poste haste. Expect it to be available sometime late in 2010.
