Ubisoft is offering players of the PC version of Assassins Creed 2 free downloads of select games via email as an apology for server downtime experienced earlier in the month. Kotaku reports that one of their community members received the email shown below offering him a free game. There are also others who claim that Ubisoft has offered them DLC originally only available by purchasing the Special Edition of the game.

Earlier this month, players of the PC version of Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed 2 experienced issues playing the game related to a controversial DRM solution that required players to be connected to the server even to play the single player “offline” campaign. The cause of the issues with the server were originally linked to high demand by Ubisoft, however the company twittered shortly after that their had been an attack on the server. While the problem has been fixed for quite some time, the sever downtime caused a huge controversy surrounding the controversial DRM solution and was obviously causing tons of bad PR for Ubisoft.
