Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO to arrive spring 2011

Gamers face a year-long wait for the MMO expected to finally challenge the market dominance that is World of Warcraft.

Following a teaser by EA boss John Riccitiello earlier this week of a “major” MMO being a year away, Bioware’s Sean Dahlberg has confirmed what was expected by many, the arrival of the long awaited Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic.

Speaking on the SW: TOR official forum he said: “While we have not announced a specific date, we can confirm that we are targeting a spring 2011 release for Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

The Online multiplayer game based on the phenomenally successful Star Wars franchise was first announced back in 2008, resulting in much anticipation from avid gamers and Star Wars fanatics alike.

Although a rough timescale for the game has now been made available, many expectant fans have been left disappointed by the lack of a 2010 arrival. Fortunately, it won’t be a barren wait until the game’s release. Dahlberg said: "We’ve got a lot of exciting updates and reveals planned throughout 2010, including the first-ever hands-on testing for the game.”

Some expectant gamers looking for an MMO to challenge the dominance of World of Warcraft may have to wait a year but that year could be used wisely, for remember, you have a lot to learn young Jedi.
