There is no denying that Google Voice is great way to send and receive free SMS messages. Google has done a good job integrating it into Android, and other developers have done the same with the iPhone. Google Voice is great for the mobile users on the go, but what about those that are stuck on their desktops.
Google Voice by default is a powerful web application, but most users have to keep a browser window open to use Google Voice’s feature. There is a alternative, GVNotifier. A compact, but still full feature desktop client for your Google Voice account.
GVNotifier brings all the useful features of Google Voice onto your taskbar. You can quickly send and recieve SMS messages, listen and read voicemail messages, view all your Google Voice contacts, and all your call history. Bust most of all you get easily notified of any new messages coming into your Google Voice account.
Like I said, it isnt a huge, clunky desktop client, it looks especially good on Windows 7, with its great shell integration, but it also works on Windows Vista and Windows XP. GVNotifier is still a work-in progress, so it might seem a little raw.
GVNotifier 1.4.1. is free of charge and can be downloaded at the developers site daveamenta.com.
