Dots and arrows with .avi files

An alternative to clicking the ‘more options’ under the now playing is to go
tools/options. in eitherr case, DVD tab advanced. However, depending on what
codecs you have installed (and their relative order of merit), the codec
property page that opens when you go to options/DVD/advanced may not be the
ffdshow one (for me it is the Ac3 filter).

If you do have ffdshow installed, go to start/programs/ffdshow. click on the
Video decoder configuration, then do as Neil suggests, unchecking OSD etc..
Repeat if necessary for Audio decoder configuration
