Facebook denies “panic button” rumours, again

Facebook says it won’t be putting a “panic button” on its homepage, which would allow children to report possible paedophiles, despite pressure from the Home Secretary to make their service safer for children.

Instead, the social network will host links to child protection sites that offer advice on online safety such as the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) centre.

For the last year Facebook has been resisting pressure from charities and government officials that called for better protection for children on the site.

A Facebook spokesperson told the BBC that they would endeavour to try improve their safety system. However it seems the social network will draw the line at putting in a full-blown panic button onto every page on the service.
