Vodafone Apple iPhone on sale today with unlimited texts

Vodafone officially begins selling the Apple iPhone 3GS and 3G handsets today to commence the battle of the UK’s big three networks for the lion’s share of the standard-bearing smartphone pie.

The big news is that Vodafone customers will have unlimited texts with all contracts, from £30-a-month, right up to the £75 top-end contacts. This is a first for the iPhone, aside from Orange’s £125-a-month deal.

In terms of data, Vodafone users will have access to 1GB of 3G data, which falls right in the middle of Orange’s 750MB and O2’s "Unlimited" promise. Monthly contracts and minutes remain pretty standard across the board, with slight variances here and there.

Voda accompanied the launch with an addition to the Apple app store. Vodafone Navigation will take on TomTom and CoPilot Live with a £3-a-month GPS service offering 3D mapping, voice guidance, and on-the-go rerouting.

The iPhone is now available on Vodafone, O2, Orange and Tesco Mobile as the O2’s two-year-plus exclusive stranglehold on the device came to an end towards the end of last year.
