Orange confirm Apple tablet imminent then change mind

Apple tablet comes and goes as Orange executive confirms then denies that the highly anticipated iSlate is on its way.

In an interview with a French TV channel yesterday, Orange’s number-two executive in the country, Stephane Richard was left backtracking as he appeared to confirm the imminent arrival of the Apple product that has everyone talking.

Having appeared to confirm the existence of such a device, Richard, when asked if Orange’s customers would benefit from the tech, proceeded to say “yes, of course.” He also suggested that the Apple tablet would contain an inbuilt webcam for video calling.

Orange, with a history of prematurely revealing Apple products, were quick to clarify what Richard allegedly meant saying that his comments had been “taken out of context, then interpreted in to English".  They added: “These responses in no way reflect Orange’s confirmation of the existence of the rumoured device. The spokesperson was merely confirming that he is aware of the speculation surrounding a launch and that Orange would be delighted to have such a product, were it ever to be available.”

A potential Apple tablet-style PC has been the basis for months of rumour and speculation amongst the electronics industry, and, with just weeks until the expected unveiling on January 27th; such rumours are growing ever more tantalising and poignant.

As the tech world waits and holds its collective breath for Steve Jobs to take to the stage to unveil the tablet that would undoubtedly change it all, T3 are keeping braced, fingers over keys to let you know the ins and out of what could well be the gadget of the year.
